As a subsidiary of RSBG SE and therefore part of the RAG-Stiftung, RSBG Ventures is positioned where tradition meets the future. Having grown from our roots in coal mining, we are expanding our involvement beyond our traditional portfolio of medium-sized companies and focusing on promoting and growing start-ups. The start-ups in question provide innovative solutions in future-oriented sectors.

Our investments are focused on the following proven fields: digitalization, cloud computing, high-tech manufacturing, industrial automation and robotics, infrastructure and engineering services, and pharmaceuticals and life sciences. By making strategic investments in the form of minority shareholdings in these key areas, RSBG Ventures actively helps to overcome future challenges and drives technological progress.

The RSBG Ventures investment hypothesis

As part of RSBG SE, RSBG Ventures manages a portfolio that is based on the group’s wide-ranging expertise and that focuses on industrial and infrastructure technology, as well as the future-oriented field of climate technology. In particular, RSBG Ventures concentrates on investments in the Series A and Series B phases.

The amounts invested are typically between two and five million euros – with the option of additional follow-on investments. RSBG Ventures assumes a lead, co-lead or follower role, depending on the strategic direction and needs of the portfolio company.

Strategy and investment thesis

At RSBG Ventures, we have a targeted investment strategy according to which we acquire minority shareholdings in start-ups whose business models and technologies match the core areas of our existing medium-sized companies. We are also actively looking for promising investments in climate tech.

As well as offering financial support, RSBG Ventures more importantly provides access to an extensive network of industry experts and established companies such as QVEST, LAB14 and the United Robotics Group. We aim to actively support start-ups in the development of innovative technologies and products and to create real synergies through interactions with our portfolio companies. This strategic partnership is intended not only to help the start-ups grow, but also to strengthen our ecosystem through new ideas and innovations.
